Rare Lung Cancer That Is Often Found at a Young Age
Lung cancer is generally divided into two types. There is non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and small cell type lung cells (SCLC). In a number of patients NSCLC has a gene mutation called ALK (Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase) which is also known as rare NSCLC ALK + (positive ALK) lung cancer.
ALK is one of the oncogenic mutations that occurs in non-small cell lung cancer patients or NSCLC. Positive ALK lung cancer has a very rapid deterioration period, which is only about seven months with chemotherapy treatment. Lung cancer is arguably a rare disease which occurs in about 2-5 percent of the lung cancer population.
This positive ALK lung cancer was mostly found to have an advanced stage. Usually often found at a younger age than lung cancer patients in general, which is around 45-50 years and not a smoker. As well as experiencing the spread of cancer cells or metastases to the brain.
Treatment for lung cancer patients has developed very rapidly. Advances in technology that enables effective treatment of lung cancer. One of them is evidenced from the results of studies that show Anti-ALK lung cancer treatment with Alectinib which has succeeded in increasing the therapeutic outcome in patients and can provide a worsening free period for almost three years.
