3 Myths Food Combining Don’t Trust Anymore This Is Denied By Nutritionist
Various myths circulating in the community about many things and health issues become one of the most targeted.
One example of a health myth that circulates in the community is the risk of solid food mix with a different content which is called not good for health.
Eat noodles with rice? It is not good, double carbo!
We are certainly familiar with such sentences, because they are often spoken in the midst of everyday conversation.
Unfortunately, these myths are circulating and widely believed by the public without the existence of scientific evidence to support these claims.
Well, here are 3 similar myths regarding the ‘danger’ of consuming food consisting of different ingredients or food combining along with an explanation from Nutritionist Dr. dr. Tan Shot Yen.
Carbohydrates and Protein
Prohibition of consuming foods that contain carbohydrates together with foods containing protein you may have heard of.
For example, in an online report that states that consumption of rice with eggs should not be shared.
A common reason often cited is the difference in digestibility of the food ingredients and the body’s enzymes needed to digest it. This will make it difficult for the body to process the combination of carbohydrate and protein foods.
This is clearly a blunder. There has never been evidence that foods that have a different digestion period create problems if consumed together with foods that are more quickly digested. Similarly, enzymes that digest carbohydrates and protein. Although different, the fact is that they can work according to their respective targets without harming humans.Dr. dr. Tan Shot Yen
Acid and Base
Another myth in food combining is the consumption of foods that contain acids and bases together.
The myth is developed and believed, if the food with two ingredients that are eaten together can make the pH (acidity or alkalinity) become neutral and will stop the digestive process.
If the digestion process stops then decay will occur, and the accumulated impurities will turn into poisons for the body.
This claim has never been proven scientifically. The fact we want to drink pH 10 soap water will also go through the stomach with acidity pH 2. This means that stomach acid was created to kill a number of bacteria that are at risk of being swallowed. Only when food enters the small intestine, here the cells of the small intestine will produce bicarbonate which automatically neutralizes the previous acidity of the stomach.Dr. dr. Tan Shot Yen
The human body has been designed in such a way and is capable of carrying out these tasks.
Decomposition of Digestion
The last myth relating to the risk of food combining is spoilage in digestion. The large intestine has its own decomposing bacteria that are responsible for forming human waste. If not, then human waste cannot form. It is precisely fermentation because these spoilage bacteria are very useful.
Spoilage bacteria are probiotics that are fed by prebiotics, which are insoluble fiber from the vegetables we consume.Dr. dr. Tan Shot Yen
If the balance of these bacteria is maintained, not only does the body’s immunity get, but also protects the intestine from the risk of colon cancer.
We hopes that myths are unfounded and only based on common sense as has been widely circulated, can soon be lost and straightened out.
The public is no longer expected to believe such myths, especially in the health sector.
Embarrassed, if our public still adheres to their beliefs, while out there they are already blasphemous. Let’s go straight.
